Join us on this fantastic 2 day private tour via Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Desert. Our route takes us via the famous Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, so well known in the movies as a location for some box office hits like Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. We follow the Draa valley south to the desert visiting some interesting locations on the way. Ancient Kasbahs and oases are en route as we cross back over the High Atlas to Marrakech.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH – KASBAH AIT BENHADDOU – OUARZAZATE – ZAGORA – OVERNIGHT DESERT CAMP

Morocco Gnawa Tours will pick you up from your hotel at 07.00am with a 4×4 and driver. We start the tour passing the stunning Tizi n´Tichka mountain pass, spectacular mountain scenery and ever-changing landscape along the way. Visit the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou – a UNESCO World heritage site, and have lunch in the region of Ouarzazate. After lunch we drive across the Anti-Atlas traveling through the Berber village of Agdez and the Draa Valley with its hundreds of thousands of palm tree plantations, considered to be the largest one in Morocco. We arrive in Zagora late afternoon and get ready for a camel trek towards the sand dunes to admire the sunset. Continue to your Sahara desert camp for dinner under the stars next to a camp fire while being entertained by some local drumming bands. Sleep in the camp in the Erg Chegaga dunes.

DAY 2: ZAGORA – TAMNOUGALT – OUARZAZATE – MARRAKECH

An early morning start after breakfast from the bivouac camp. We drive north to visit the amazing Kasbah Tamnougalt with its fantastic oasis. Then travel via the Draa Valley to Agdez, on to Ouarzazate and once again over the High Atlas Mountains to reach Marrakech by evening. If you only have a few days in Marrakech but want to visit the desert, this is the ideal excursion. It is a long road but the scenery and the overall experience make it all worth it.
