General
Marrakech is an exciting and colorful Moroccan city for a short break for a few days. Some call Marrakech magical with its diversity that fascinates and charms. There are ancient parts and new parts in an interesting mix. With its intense and bustling life at Jemaa el Fna, the old Medina and also a lot of historical sites it is in big contrast to the new area, Gueliz with its modern boutiques, Coffee shops and museums.
Located at the edge of a large dry plain, at the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains and yet, not too far from the cooler Atlantic Coast, the Red City of Marrakech was founded back in the 11th century. Parts of Marrakech have hardly changed in a millennium and the indigenous Berber population are the artisans and craftsmen, the builders and renovators, the gardeners and caretakers, the bakers and the tagine makers.
You have the opportunity during a stay in Marrakech to take a break from the bustling life, and discover some other part of Morocco, close enough for a day trip. Take a look at our day trips and maybe you find exactly the day out you would like. The snow capped Atlas mountains looming in the distance are always a draw, filled with small Berber adobe villages with their fertile terraced fields which lay open the way to the distant desert sands and mystical kasbahs. The sandy beaches of the western coastline are within easy reach for a day or more. Spectacular waterfalls cascade passed rustic riverside restaurants and monkeys wait for your scraps. Marrakech has something to offer for everyone and so accessible with direct flights.
If you would like to spend all your days in Marrakech without a day trip this is of course possible as there is plenty to do and see.
